Oregon does not sell tax lien certificates. Oregon does sell tax deeds at an annual sale which taxes place between June and December of each year. Interestingly, Oregon laws do provide for title insurance if the purchase price of the property is high (i.e., more than $25,000). Title insurance can be an issue with tax sale properties when the purchaser tries to sell the property to a traditional buyer (i.e., one who is trying to obtain a loan from a bank to fund the purchase). Some title companies will issue tile insurance on tax sale properties so be sure to do some research.
NOTE: In all tax deed states research is very important. This is because the possibility of land ownership is very high. You should begin reading the state statutes relating to property taxes and delinquent tax collection practices. It is very important to be fully aware of which liens will survive the sale and foreclosure of the deed. The new owner of the parcel will be responsible for any surviving liens and claims attached to the property.
